Most Anticipated Movies To Watch
From James Bonds’ 25th Installment comes “No Time to Die,” and Disney & Pixar’s soulful movie “Soul,” to the “West Side Story” remake, we explore the biggest movies coming out in 2020.
The ongoing Covid-19 pandemic created a lot of changes and impacted a lot of businesses. The movie theater and movie industry have been heavily impacted as theaters are temporarily closed or learn to adapt with strict restrictions like having only five people in a theater.
Hollywood is still producing movies and giving us content to be excited about before the year ends. Whether you’re into thrillers, horrors, animation, or action-packed, 2020 has a movie for you. These movies have most likely been postponed once or twice, and Covid-19 made us wait a little longer to see them, but they are finally here … so mark your calendars, mask up, and wait no more because these movies are finally hitting the theaters and here to make your 2020 year a lot better. And just a disclaimer, these movies may get pushed back again depending on how we improve as a country going into the next couple months.
“Tenet” – September 3
Despite being delayed three times due to the Covid-19 pandemic, “Tenet” is finally here. The postponed movie made $53 million (and rising) in box office sales internationally this past weekend, which is way more than they anticipated despite the ongoing pandemic. The spy film by Christopher Nolan has been positively compared to one of his most iconic and prestigious works, “Inception,” and is also rumored by fans to be a sequel to it. John David Washington, who plays the main character, journeys through an unfamiliar world of international espionage on a mission that will unfold in something beyond real time. For all you Hawaii residents, due to the two-week-stay-at-home order you will not be able to watch on opening night but hopefully “Tenet” will still be in theaters once the two-week-stay-at-home is over.
“Wonder Woman 1984” – October 2
Everyone’s favorite female superhero and favorite actress Gal Gadot brings the sequel “Wonder Woman 1984.” The movie takes us back to the year of 1984 during the Cold War when Diana Prince (aka Wonder Woman) comes into conflict with media businessman Maxwell Lord (Pedro Pascal) and friend-turned-enemy Barbara Minerva/Cheetah-played by Kristen Wiig, while reuniting with her love interest Steve Trevor as Chris Pine. This is a must-see for all DC Comics fans and a must-watch because it is Gal Gadot.
“Candyman” – October 16
The perfect Halloween movie to watch, just don’t repeat his name five times in the mirror. The horror film “Candyman” explores the ancient legend of Chicago’s Cabrini Green neighborhood, where a supernatural killer with a hook for a hand can be easily summoned by those brave enough to repeat his name five times into a mirror. In present-day Chicago, Anthony McCoy, played by the Black Manta himself Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, is exposed to the horrific nature of the true story behind the Candyman and gets confronted with his complex past that undercovers his sanity. Also if you’re scared of bees, skip this movie because before bees appear before the Candyman slaughters his victim, and seeing this foretells that the victim will die.
“West Side Story” – December 18
Steven Spielberg directs this romantic musical drama, which is the remake of the 1957 Tony Award-winning Broadway musical, “West Side Story.” For all you romance, musical, and Shakespeare fans, this movie is a modern take on Romeo and Juliet, showcasing the rivalry between the Jets and the Sharks gangs (similar to the Montague and Capulet conflict). Featuring heartthrob, “TFIOS” actor Ansel Elgort and up and coming actress Rachel Zegler as Tony and Maria. Tony and Maria are two teens in 1950s New York City who fall in love despite their rival gangs and the many consequences that come with it. If this movie does excite you and you marked it on your movies to watch list, you may have to wait longer because there is no trailer for this movie at this time and I assume it is because of Covid-19 and the delaying of filming.
“Black Widow” – November 6
The Black Widow finally gets her own movie, and this is significant as it is just the second Marvel movie featuring a female lead. Following the events of “Captain America: Civil War,” long before she was unfortunately killed off in “Endgame” (wth Marvel), Natasha Romanoff must journey back to where she grew up in order to confront a dangerous conspiracy. She becomes hunted by a force that will stop at nothing to bring her down and must deal with her history as a spy along with her broken relationships that she left long before she became an Avenger.
“Soul” – November 20
A movie I’m most excited about, Disney and Pixar’s new feature “Soul” introduces Jamie Foxx as Joe Gardner, a jazz-loving middle school band teacher. Gardner accidentally falls into a manhole where his soul instantly becomes separated from his body and transported to a training center for newer souls getting ready to enter the bodies of newborn babies. There, Joe meets another fellow soul, named 22 (voiced by Tina Fey), who has never experienced belonging to a human. Joe then desperately tries to convince her what’s great about living while finding the answers to some of life’s most important questions. If you are a confused human and looking for some answers to life’s most crazy questions, give this movie a try.
“No Time to Die” – November 25
The 25th installment of the James Bond series (a 007’s job never ends) comes “No Time to Die,” the fifth and final (we’ll see about that) James Bond movie with Daniel Craig. Bond finds himself approached by Felix Leiter, his friend, and CIA agent who desperately needs his help in search of a missing scientist who has been abducted. It then becomes apparent that Bond must confront a mysterious villain, who’s armed with a dangerous new technology that the world’s never seen before. And by the way, if you are iffy about watching this new 007 movie, the movie is well cast with famous actors like Rami Malek, Naomie Harris, and Jeffrey Wright.
