Hottest Movies Closing Up The Year

These much-anticipated movies will be must-sees before the end of the year.

As we end the summer blockbuster movie run, it’s time to find out what will be ending off the 2019 movie year with a bang. While there is a good amount of movies releasing within the next few months. Here are the top five movies that I personally am excited to see.

Joker” (October 4)

DC’s newest live action movie is going in a different direction than other superhero movies. Directed by Todd Phillips, known more for his comedy chops with “The Hangover” series than serious films, “Joker” will not be connected to the larger DCEU (DC Extended Universe). Most fans are interested in seeing this new Joker being played by Joaquin Phoenix as his portrayal of the character is similar to Heath Ledger, who won a posthumous Academy Award for his performance whose performance is considered the .

Zombieland 2: Double Tap” (October 18)
After the success of the original “Zombieland” in 2009, most fans of the film were waiting for the sequel. After 10 years of being zombie-less, we finally get to see our favorite zombie killer makeshift family back again with the original cast coming back. Director Ruben Fleischer is also returning to the film. This new adventure sees these four misfits facing off against new kinds of zombies that have evolved since the last movie, as well as meeting new human survivors.

Frozen II” (November 22)
It was a no brainer that Disney was going to make a sequel to one of their biggest movies of recent times. Similar to the upcoming “Star Wars” movie, there is little information regarding this movie. The trailers themselves give no hints as to what the story is about. Regardless of little information about the plot, I’m sure Disney will be able to surprise us.

Jumanji: The Next Level” (December 13)
“Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle,” released in 2017, surprised with its ability to take the original story and move it to another direction. With the success of the recent iteration of the franchise, there was no question that a sequel was in the making. Director Jake Kasdan is returning as well as the original cast from the 2017 production. This new adventure will see our favorite teens (and their superstar avatars in The Rock, Jack Black, Kevin Hart, and Karen Gillan) venture back into the game as they need to find their friend who went back in.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” (December 20)
The epic conclusion of the “Skywalker Saga,” this takes place after the last film, “Star Wars: The Last Jedi.” There is little information regarding the film’s plot (although this trailer makes it seem that the main character, Rey, will join the dark side). This has fans speculating how this story will go. Director J.J. Abrams is returning after directing the successful “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.” Most people are interested to how the film will handle Princess Leia in this movie after the passing of Carrie Fisher. The cast from both “The Last Jedi” and “The Force Awakens” returns as well as Billy Dee Williams returning as the fan favorite Lando Calrissian.

Honorable mentions:

Maleficent: Mistress of Evil” (October 18)
Angelina Jolie returns as the wicked witch in this brand new story of an iconic villain.

Terminator: Dark Fate” (November 1)
Another addition to the franchise, Linda Hamilton returns to reprise her role as Sarah Connor. James Cameron also returns as a writer for the film.

Doctor Sleep” (November 8)
The sequel to the well-known “The Shining.” We see now-adult Dan Torrance meets someone who has similar powers as his.
