Halloween Costume Ideas
When “Wonder Woman” made a huge box office hit this past June it opened up the doors to a new heroine to lead the way this Halloween. Just as HBO’s “Game of Thrones” ended its season, there are new costumes that can be made with inspiration from the most recent pop culture. All these ideas can finally end the tyranny that was the “Suicide Squad” costumes from 2016 Halloween; replacing them with strong female leaders and a more terrifying clown in the White House.
1. “Game of Thrones”
For those who have been keeping up with HBO’s fantasy show, the most recent season ended Sunday, Aug. 27. Characters who have been built up – such as Jon Snow, the King in the North; and Daenerys Targaryen, the rightful Queen to the Seven Kingdoms – have changed so drastically that it can be a couple’s costume with the twist the finale showed us. Fans of the show can dress up in black faux fur for Jon Snow, and a white dress for a royal look of Daenerys Targaryen.
2. Political Figures
Each year political figures, no matter how old or recent, have been the target of consistent costume ideas. Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton and George W. Bush masks were popular in the past. But with tensions in the White House rising, those masks will potentially be traded in for Donald J. Trump and Vladimir Putin for those looking to poke fun at the system.
3. Clowns
Clowns have become a staple Halloween idea for those who like to scare. Last year, the clown prince “The Joker,” who is less scary than the average clown, took over. However, on Sept. 8, “IT” was released. “IT” is a movie about an evil force that takes the form of Pennywise the Dancing Clown and terrorizes children, and there are bound to be streets filled with horrifying clowns holding a red balloon waiting for Georgie.
4. “Star Wars: The Last Jedi”
Even though the movie will be released on Dec. 15, there have been recent photos displaying both new and old characters from the Resistance and the New Order. The Praetorian Guards are replacing the red Royal Guards from previous movies and have a more samurai influence to them. There is a strong female lead, Resistance mechanic Rose Tico is a great costume for the average person who just wants to make a difference.
5. “Wonder Woman”
After the huge Harley Quinn wave that washed over last Halloween, this year is all about the Amazonians taking over. With “Wonder Woman” earning more than $816 million worldwide since its June 2 release, it’s bound to kill off any remaining “Suicide Squad” costumes.
6. “Justice League”
However, along with “Wonder Woman,” the entire Justice League of America will be by her side, leaving many options for the male superheroes out there. “Justice League” comes out Nov. 17, so group costumes can get ahead of the game this Halloween with superheros like Batman, Cyborg, The Flash and Aquaman.
