Did you ever regret something and wish you never did it?
Even some of today’s biggest celebrities have tattoos that they have big regrets about such as Johnny Depp, Megan Fox, Britney Spears, Angelina Jolie, and many more. Johnny Depp got “Winona Forever” tatted on his arm in 1993 when he was in a long-term relationship with actress Winona Ryder, but since their relationship didn’t last, he got it changed to “Wino Forever.”
Tattoos have become a cultural phenomena in today’s society. Although, generally speaking, tattoos have slowly started to become more accepted over the years. But there are still many that claim tattoos are horrible to have because they are permanent and you will regret it in the long run.
There are many stigmas attached to having a tattoo. Some might say that it is unusual behavior and that you are ruining your body. People might even think that if you have a tattoo that automatically associates with criminality, gang involvement and time spent in prison. No one sees it as means of expressing one’s self or culture related or a memorabilia to an experience that had been in influential in one’s life.
The placement of where to put tattoos is also a deal breaker. There are just some places that certain tattoos should not be just because you think it is cool at the time. Megan Fox, for example, got a portrait of Marilyn Monroe tattooed on her forearm when she was 18 years old. Now, 26 years old, Fox has finally decided to get it removed through the slow, painful process of laser removal.
But how do you know if where you place a tattoo is the best place or not? Although tattoos are being more accepted, there are still some people who do not accept tattoos like the workplace. Some jobs do not want their employees to have tattoos and may not hire you because you have tattoos.
When vying for a position at a big company or even being an actor or actress, the boss may ask that if you have one or more tattoos you cover them up so they are not seen. Companies want to uphold a reputation and do not want their workers all tatted up. Also, when hired to star in a movie, many actors and actresses are asked to cover them up because of the character they are portraying.
When choosing where to put my tattoos, I chose discrete places such as my thigh and on my shoulder. I knew when it would come to applying for jobs, that they would have to be hidden at all times so I put them in spots that no one would see depending on the type of outfit I wore.
Living in Hawaii, tattoos are common. Even people you would think would not have tattoos probably have tattoos. But sometimes there are times when you see certain tattoos and think “Why on earth would you get that tatted on your body?” or “What were you thinking when you got that?” There have been countless times where I have seen random strangers or even some of my own friends’ tattoos and think to myself “Why would put that on your body!”
Being from California, tattoos are part of the norm as well. You will see a wide variety of tattoos such as gang-related tattoos, Bible script tattoos, sleeve tattoos, chest tattoos, and anything else you could possibly think of. Polynesian tattoos were not the common style of tattoo to have. However, I danced in a halau and grew up in the culture, I knew a lot of people who had tribal tattoos. I didn’t think I, myself, would want a tattoo until my second year and third year of college.
So if you ever decide to get a tattoo, make sure that it is something you really want and won’t regret and that it is also in place where it will not affect you getting a job.
